National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

Hey World!

I am finally home after a 6 day road trip from Philadelphia/Ohio. But I wanted to share with you a very touching experience. While in Cincinnati, I had the opportunity to visit the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Personally, I've never heard of this center. We were given an introduction speech where the guy said....slavery didn't only exist in the SOUTH....it was heavy in the NORTH as well. I was taught all these years that the North was the place to gain your freedom, but it wasn't as free as we thought...interesting. One of the most touching exhibits in this center was the "Without Sanctuary" exhibit. This featured ACTUAL lynching photography in America. I can't even begin to describe what I witnessed. 41 states participated in lynching. To be honest, although it's 2010, I had a slight feeling of hate in my blood, not understanding why people could be so cruel. I mean there were photos of CROWDS of people pointing and laughing at our ancestors while they burn and hang from trees, I couldn't stomach it. We had such a short time in the Center because we were on a tight schedule. However if I am ever in the area again, I will be going back. But in the meantime, check out the website http://www.freedomcenter.org/

Question: In the image above....describe your thoughts?

  1. That is crazy how people will go to see lynching like it was a sports event. Our country has a dark past. I would have hate in my blood as well after viewing something like that.

I have never heard of this place (freedom center). Good Post.
